Thankful for the Things We Hope We Never Need

Thanksgiving table set for a festive night

Welcome! I’m Ashlynne, co-owner of VP Custom Insurance Solutions.
My goal with this blog is to make insurance easier to understand—answering the questions that often go unasked and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like to be an agent.

Now, let’s dive into what you came here for.

There is an old Thanksgiving tradition many of us know well.

Everyone gathers around the table, plates are full, conversations overlap, and at some point someone asks the question:

“What are you thankful for?”

Sometimes the answers are simple.

Family.

Friends.

Health.

A good year.

A new opportunity.

A familiar face sitting across the table.

And sometimes the answer surprises us.

At VP Custom Insurance Solutions, Amber and I have a lot to be thankful for this year.

We are incredibly thankful for our clients, of course. Every person and business that trusts us with something important gives us a reason to keep doing this work with care.

But we are also deeply thankful for our community.

For the relationships we have built with local real estate agents.

For the people who have referred someone our way.

For the clients who have taken the time to leave a kind word.

For the businesses and organizations that have welcomed us into community events.

For the people who have stopped by with a question, shared a post, recommended our office, or simply offered encouragement along the way.

This year, we have made a very intentional effort to be more than an insurance office.

We want to be good community members.

We want VP to feel like an open resource for people who have insurance questions, even when the answer does not immediately lead to a sale.

We want people to feel comfortable asking.

We want to explain things in plain language.

We want to participate.

We want to show up.

And the kindness that has come back to us because of that has been felt.

It has also been humbling.

There is something meaningful about realizing the relationships around a business can become just as important as the business itself.

Some Things Are Easy to Be Thankful For

Family is easy.

Friends are easy.

A beautiful place to live is easy.

A good meal, a safe home, a growing business, a healthy child, a supportive neighbor.

Those are the kinds of things that naturally belong at the Thanksgiving table.

Insurance?

Probably not the first thing that comes to mind.

And we understand why.

Insurance can be frustrating.

It can be difficult to understand.

Policies are long.

Underwriting questions can feel repetitive.

Rates can change.

Premiums can cost more than we would like.

Sometimes the entire process feels like paying for something we hope we never have to use.

Because that is exactly what it is.

The Best-Case Scenario Is That Your Policy Stays Boring

Nobody buys homeowners insurance hoping to file a claim.

No business owner buys commercial insurance hoping for a fire, theft, lawsuit, equipment loss, or interruption.

Nobody pays for auto insurance hoping to be in an accident.

The ideal outcome is that the policy sits quietly in the background.

You pay for it.

You occasionally review it.

You hopefully never have to think very hard about it.

That can make insurance feel like one of the least satisfying things to spend money on.

Until something happens.

Then the boring policy suddenly becomes very important.

When Life Does Not Follow the Plan

A tree falls.

A pipe bursts.

A driver gets into an accident.

A fire damages a building.

Equipment is stolen.

A customer is injured.

A storm causes damage.

A business cannot operate normally after a covered loss.

These are not things any of us want to imagine happening.

But they do happen.

And when they do, insurance can become the difference between facing the loss entirely on your own and having a path forward.

That is the part we are thankful for.

Not the paperwork.

Not the premium.

Not the confusing terminology.

The possibility of recovery.

Insurance Is Really About What Comes Next

A policy is a contract, but what it represents can be much bigger than that.

It may mean repairing a home.

Replacing damaged property.

Getting a vehicle back on the road.

Helping a business reopen.

Providing a defense when someone makes a claim.

Replacing equipment that is necessary to work.

Helping someone move forward after a day they never expected to have.

Insurance cannot undo what happened.

It cannot replace the sentimental things.

It cannot erase the stress of a loss.

But when coverage responds as intended, it can provide resources to begin putting things back together.

And that is worth being thankful for.

We Are Thankful for the People Behind the Policy Too

Insurance does not work because of a piece of paper alone.

There are people behind every recovery.

Claims adjusters.

Restoration crews.

Contractors.

Repair shops.

Carrier representatives.

Inspectors.

Agents.

Account managers.

Customer service teams.

Sometimes emergency responders and local tradespeople too.

When a claim happens, a whole group of people may suddenly become part of someone's story.

Most of the time, those people are working toward one thing:

Helping that person or business get back to something that feels normal again.

That side of insurance is not always visible when you are paying the bill.

But it matters.

Gratitude Does Not Mean Pretending Insurance Is Perfect

We can be thankful for insurance and still be honest about its frustrations.

Those two things can exist at the same time.

We know premiums have become difficult for many people.

We know the insurance market can be confusing.

We know coverage can be complicated.

We know underwriting requirements can feel exhausting.

We know sometimes people hear “no” when they desperately want to hear “yes.”

Being grateful for the purpose of insurance does not mean pretending every part of the system is easy.

It means recognizing why the protection matters when life takes an unexpected turn.

And We Are Especially Thankful for Trust

There is one more thing Amber and I are incredibly thankful for.

Trust.

Insurance conversations can involve some very personal parts of people's lives.

Homes.

Businesses.

Employees.

Finances.

Property.

Future plans.

Sometimes losses.

Sometimes really difficult days.

When someone chooses VP to help them navigate those things, we do not take that lightly.

We are thankful every time someone calls us with a question.

Every time a client refers a friend.

Every time a local professional sends someone our way.

Every time someone takes the time to leave a review or kind message.

Every time we are invited to participate in something happening in our community.

That support has allowed us to continue growing into the kind of agency we want VP to be.

One that educates.

One that listens.

One that participates.

One that is available as a resource.

And one that remembers there are real people behind every policy number.

Back Around the Table

So if we were sitting around the Thanksgiving table this year and it was our turn to answer the question, our list would probably be a long one.

We would say our families.

Our friends.

Our team.

Our clients.

Our fellow local businesses.

Our real estate partners.

Our referral partners.

The people who have encouraged us.

The people who have trusted us.

The community that continues to make room for VP to participate.

And yes, we would probably add insurance to the list too.

Not because we love paying for it.

Not because we hope you ever have to use it.

But because when life does not go according to plan, we are thankful there can be something there to help.

This Thanksgiving, our hope is that your policies stay boring, your claims stay nonexistent, your homes and businesses stay safe, and your table is surrounded by people you are grateful to have there.

And if the day ever comes when you do need the insurance sitting quietly in the background, we will be thankful it is there too.

From Amber, Ashlynne, and everyone at VP Custom Insurance Solutions, thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and allowing us to be part of this community.

We are incredibly grateful to be here. 🤎
